Continued roll-out of fixed
network infrastructure In 2019, Société du Grand Paris began the
process of selecting an operator to manage
the ultra-high speed (fibre optic) electronic
communications network under a service
concession contract. The consultation
process is still ongoing and is expected to be
completed in 2021. The roll-out of the fibre
optic duct infrastructure will be carried out
in parallel to the roll-out of the Grand Paris
Express lines.
Preliminary negotiations for
the mobile network for Lines 16
and 17 In late 2019, Société du Grand Paris launched
a call for applications for the implementation
of a public land user agreement to enable
mobile coverage on Lines 16 and 17. Société
du Grand Paris consulted businesses in the
sector to listen to their perspective on
the market and the constraints involved.
The process is ongoing. Other calls for tender
are planned in 2021 for operating the fibre
optic network and for mobile coverage on
the Grand Paris Express lines.
ACTION 25 Leverage digital to improve the user experience and promote local
development
The Grand Paris Act of 3 June 2010 requires Société du Grand Paris to integrate devices to
enable the deployment of ultra-high speed communications networks into the metro infrastructure.
Société du Grand Paris s digital strategy is being applied from the design stage of the Grand Paris
Express through to the creation of a data transmission network (ducting carrying fibre optic
cables) that mirrors the passenger transport network.
The data collection network built by Société du Grand Paris will therefore form a data
transmission backbone. It will enhance access across the Île-de-France region with multiple
access point and create economic attractiveness, driving innovation and development.
This network will be complemented by the implementation of technical hosting sites that will
support the processing and use of data in the Greater Paris Metropolitan Area. In addition, the
deployment of mobile networks is already being planned as part of the design of the Grand Paris
Express.
Mobile communication services will provide internet connectivity on all Grand Paris Express lines,
providing passengers with seamless, uninterrupted communications directly from their devices
in all public spaces to which they have access, even on trains travelling between stations.
Complex technical and aesthetic issues
Developing all this infrastructure will require taking a set of complex challenges into account
from the earliest stages: engineering, anticipating needs over time, joint activity, architectural
constraints, and aesthetic constraints (limited available space, dissipating heat from electronic
equipment, etc.). It requires the roll-out to be organised and planned in advance.
KILOMETRES OF DUCTING FOR FIBRE OPTIC CABLES WILL BE
INSTALLED IN 2020 ON THE NETWORK
