IN 2020
Two pilot projects launched
in 2020 Two pilot projects the development of
the Saint-Denis Canal, with Plaine Commune
and Plaine Commune Développement,
and the urban renewal scheme in Francs
Moisins were launched in 2020. The aim is
to integrate concrete made from recycled
materials into these development projects
and, more importantly, to create momentum
beyond the Grand Paris Express to make the
approach more widespread.
Raising awareness of
materials reuse Société du Grand Paris is currently
developing an eco-friendly materials
guide for programme managers, to raise
awareness of the potential for reusing spoil.
The aim is to standardise Société du Grand
Paris s approach and promote its practices.
The visibility of its recycling approach has
also increased among the general public,
thanks to a special exhibition space at
the Fabrique du Métro, numerous
articles published in newspapers, and
multidisciplinary events organised by the
youth unit.
A incentive-based procurement
strategy for promoting the
circular economy In the tender documents for the first
design-build contract for Line 15 West,
Société du Grand Paris set some ambitious
targets for the use of eco-friendly materials
from spoil excavated from the Grand Paris
Express: 20% for filler materials and 40%
for tunnel lining materials. The technical
feasibility of these reuse practices has been
verified by means of formulations developed
in the laboratory and by approaching partner
platforms that are already able to recycle
spoil. Initial tenders are expected in 2021.
The partnership with Plaine
Commune is bearing more fruit Following the signing of the partnership
in 2019, Société du Grand Paris completed
a study of the specifications for two
neighbourhood developments and made
proposals for alternative materials for land
reinforcement at Fort d Aubervilliers.
ACTION 15 Promote the production/use
of recycled materials in construction
In addition to its efforts to expand the industry and develop
processes, Société du Grand Paris has begun efforts
to incorporate incentives into its works contracts and
ensure reuse of the excavated spoil in materials to meet
local development needs.
To that end, in 2019 it signed a partnership agreement with
the Plaine Commune public territorial establishment to
convert spoil from the Grand Paris Express into eco-friendly
materials for use in local construction and development
projects.
Société du Grand Paris also assists its public procurement
partners, through working groups or proposals, to find
incentive mechanisms that can be incorporated into
development contracts for pilot sites.
