When he sat down inside the train, Xavier,
a 25-year-old resident of Asnières, was immediately
struck by the amount of space: It s much more
spacious than what we have now. Joël, a person
with reduced mobility living in Saint-Ouen, was
pleasantly surprised by the well thought-out space
for wheelchairs . And Bernadette, from Chelles,
remarked that the digital display showing current
service disruption and connection times with other lines
was particularly useful.
The full-scale model of the future metro train for
Lines 15, 16 and 17 was unveiled to the public on
3 October, during an open day at the Fabrique du
Métro. Almost a thousand visitors were able
to take a seat on board this six-tonne half-carriage,
which had been delivered a few weeks earlier
by abnormal transport specialists. Craning it into
the building and then moving it into position was
an impressive feat of strength and precision, says
Coraline Knoff, Fabrique du Métro site manager.
The manoeuvres required millimetre accuracy,
especially when positioning the carriage behind the
glass platform screen.
A wealth of innovations
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the trains
on Lines 15, 16 and 17 have been designed to
provide a high level of comfort for passengers.
Air conditioning, digital information displays and
lighting that varies depending on the time of day
are just some of the features that improve passenger
well-being. Others include high-speed internet,
USB sockets for charging mobile devices, and

video protection. Each end of the trains will provide
a panoramic view through extra-wide windscreens.
The exterior design for the leading face of the
trains was chosen by Île-de-France residents after
an online participatory consultation launched at
the end of 2018 by Île-de-France Mobilités, Société
du Grand Paris and Alstom. The design with
all-encompassing lines, which received 40% of
the 13,000 votes, was preferred to those with open
or rounded lines.
