Two hub studies approved In 2020, the intermodal programmes
(reference plans) for the Val-de-Fontenay
and Nanterre La Folie hubs were approved by
all the partners. They have thus entered
the design phase.
ACTION 21 Encourage the development of intermodal transport around stations to promote
the use of car alternatives
In our rapidly changing world, it is hard to predict mobility and user preferences in 2030 and beyond.
Yet public spaces and intermodal facilities must be planned in advance of the project design phase to ensure
that they meet the needs of all users, across all types of transport.
Hub studies with Société du Grand Paris s partners
In 2015, Société du Grand Paris teamed up with Île-de-France Mobilités to launch a series of hub studies
involving all its partners. These studies are used collaboratively to define the development plan and intermodal
facilities to be built around the stations, linked to the new forms of mobility created and adapted to the needs
of all users (bus, bicycle, car, meeting areas).
Each company handles the aspects that fall within its scope: Île-de-France Mobilités is responsible for intermodal
transport and mobility, while Société du Grand Paris is responsible for public space definition. The studies are
carried out by the local authorities or public planning and development authorities
They involve three stages: site assessment and definition of the elements of the preliminary intermodality plan;
development scenario proposal for the hub and formalisation of a development plan; and lastly, definition
of the financing and management programme owners and formalisation of the hub s reference plans.
All hub studies are funded by Société du Grand Paris, at a total cost of just over 6 million.
A guide to 40 operational developments
In November 2019, Société du Grand Paris and Île-de-France Mobilités published Places du Grand Paris, principes
de conception des espaces publics du Grand Paris Express, intended to guide the planning and design work.
Drawn up in collaboration with local authorities and institutional partners as an extension of the existing local
processes, it brings together the overall vision of the Atelier des Places du Grand Paris and fosters a shared design
culture. This guide is intended to assist all programme managers responsible for designing the public spaces
of the Grand Paris Express by offering 40 operational development principles covering all aspects of public spaces:
mobility, uses, lighting, landscape, water and furniture.
Société du Grand Paris and Île-de-France Mobilités will assess compliance with their ambitions and award project
subsidies based on developers project proposals for the station districts and the results of the hub studies.
20 workshops organised
with local stakeholders Following the publication of the Places
du Grand Paris guide in November 2019,
Société du Grand Paris teams organised
around 20 workshops with local stakeholders
in 2020. The aim of these workshops was
to identify which principles will take centre
stage during the design phase with local
entities, bearing in mind the diversity
within existing local areas and the design
possibilities for these spaces. The overall
objective was to integrate these predefined
principles into the special technical
specifications for project management
and thus guarantee design quality
throughout the Grand Paris Express.
