ACTION 23 Build stations as flagship components of
the heritage of the future
Société du Grand Paris aims to create a metropolitan
cultural heritage that conveys an inclusive sense of belonging
to Greater Paris. Each station will be designed as a unique
architectural project that reflects the identity of the area it
serves and takes the site s distinctive features into account,
with a strong focus on usage.
All the projects meet the same architectural quality
standards and share consistent user comfort, sustainability
and maintainability objectives. All of these principles were
defined in the Grand Paris Express station architecture charter
written in collaboration with the architect Jacques Ferrier.
The updated 2019 version highlights the need for architectural
longevity, maintenance and optimisation and reaffirms
the original charter s stringent eco-design requirements.
A common thread linking the 68 Grand Paris Express
stations
The furniture, signage, equipment, flooring and rolling stock
will together form the identity of the Grand Paris Express,
tying together all 68 stations. The designers behind this
range of equipment are Patrick Jouin and Ruedi Baur.
Experiments and tests, using full-scale models, are currently
being carried out to fully understand their ergonomics,
their maintainability and how they are used. This collaborative
endeavour provides input for the dialogue between Société
du Grand Paris, which is responsible for building the
infrastructure and stations, and Île-de-France Mobilités.
ARTISTS ENGAGED IN DESIGNING WORKS OF ART
INTEGRATED INTO STATIONS

HIGH-LEVEL ARTISTIC COMMITTEE
RESPONSIBLE FOR MONITORING AND
SUPPORTING THE TANDEMS PROJECTS
CREATE OF1 A future collection of more than one hundred works
of contemporary art
Société du Grand Paris has also invited artists to design a
permanent and fully integrated work of art for each station,
as part of an original art integration process called Tandems .
These works will make a lasting contribution to the stations
quality and the user experience. When the programme is
complete, the Grand Paris Express network will be home
to a collection of more than 100 contemporary artworks,
making the new metro a new cultural destination for the whole
of the Île-de-France region. A committee of cultural experts
has also been appointed to support the implementation
of the artistic and cultural programme. These works of
art will be integrated into station furniture and signage to
add interest.
