Operational launch of
two recycling-as-filler projects Several agreements were signed with other
developments for the reuse of spoil from
the Grand Paris Express. For example,
in 2020, 92,000 tonnes of the first spoil
excavated from Line 16 were accepted at
the Sempin site in Chelles and Montfermeil,
to be used in the redevelopment by SAFER
Île-de-France of this former gypsum
quarry into a landscaped park. More than
140,000 tonnes of spoil were also transported
by river to the Rouen region for use in
the redevelopment by Valgo of the former
Petroplus refinery site in Petit Couronne
(Seine-Maritime).
New development projects
identified in 2020 Several partnership agreements were
signed in 2020. The first was with the
Seine-Saint-Denis department and the town
of Aulnay-sous-Bois for the redevelopment
of the former N2 national trunk road.
The second was signed with EPTB
Seine Grands Lacs to provide spoil for the
construction of dykes on the La Bassée pilot
site for flood water retention schemes on
the Seine. Lastly, a third partnership was
signed with the Val-de-Marne department
for filling former underground quarries in
Parc des Lilas in Vitry-sur-Seine. These three
projects could recycle up to 530,000 cubic
metres of spoil.
Recycling spoil as a
construction material Two public partnerships were launched
with local authorities: the Greater Paris
Metropolitan Area and the Paris Est Marne
et Bois public territorial establishment.
Two material recycling action plans were
also launched with the Plaine Commune
and Est-Ensemble public territorial
establishment.
Seven partnership agreements were also
signed with managers of spoil recycling
platforms: Baudelet, Eurovia, Extract,
Solvalor, Verdipole, Vicat and Sotraima.
These agreements were included in the
tender documents for Line 15 West.

Additional target for public
procurement contracts The tender documents for the first
design-build contract for Line 15 West also
included a specific material recycling target
of 18% of spoil excavated from the site.
This was in addition to expectations
regarding the use of eco-friendly materials.
85% recycling target for
Line 15 East Société du Grand Paris decided to launch
a tender for managing and using excavated
materials for Line 15 East. Prepared in 2020,
the tender documents required input from
many Société du Grand Paris divisions.
The recycling target of 85% is equivalent to
recycling all the materials used to build
the Great Pyramid of Giza, with the Sphinx
thrown in for good measure. The tender was
published in March 2021.
