A collaborative process
To guarantee the reliability of the entire materiality
analysis process, Société du Grand Paris approached
specialist firm Des Enjeux et des Hommes to assist
it in implementing the process and in processing the
stakeholders responses.
The materiality matrix was developed using
a three-stage approach:
1. Identification of the main issues
Taking into account existing benchmarks and
guidelines, such as ISO 26000 certification or the
UN s Sustainable Development Goals, a list of
CSR expectations related to the activities and
missions of Société du Grand Paris was drawn up.
This analysis was based on existing documentation
and Société du Grand Paris s CSR roadmap formalised
in 2019.
2. Identification of stakeholders
The mapping of stakeholders, both internal and
external, was already available thanks to the detailed
knowledge acquired by Société du Grand Paris
as part of its process of ongoing dialogue
(the stakeholder wheel). This served as a basis
for the identification work specific to the materiality
exercise that enabled each stakeholder to be
approached. Some stakeholders were grouped
together to ensure that all categories and types of
stakeholders were represented in the analysis of the
results. Thirteen categories were defined.
3. Consultation with stakeholders
The consultation was carried out by way of an online
questionnaire, which was sent, between 17 November
and 7 December 2020, to 800 internal employees
and 2,200 contacts among the external stakeholders
identified. Local residents and users of the Grand
Paris Express were also involved in this consultation
through social media networks, in compliance
with the General Data Protection Regulation.
All stakeholders consulted were asked to assess
their level of expectation with regard to each issue
by ranking them on a scale of 1 (low expectation) to
4 (high expectation).
High level of participation
A total of 1,054 responses were received for this
survey, of which 754 were from external stakeholders.
This high level of participation and the wide range of
stakeholders represented meant that the results
could be consolidated to produce a materiality matrix.
The results confirm the consistency between the
expectations of external and internal stakeholders
and the guiding principles chosen by Société du
Grand Paris in both its 2019-2024 corporate strategy
and CSR approach.
Conclusion
Of the 18 issues listed in Société du Grand Paris s
2020 materiality matrix, eight stand out as strategic
issues in the eyes of both external stakeholders and
internal employees (see matrix below). The analysis of
the risks linked to these eight strategic issues will be
used to define objectives for each one, build
appropriate action plans and measure their
performance regularly through key indicators.
Société du Grand Paris will integrate these aspects
into its CSR approach and share its progress with all
its stakeholders. This will enable it to review the
priorities of its CSR approach at regular intervals.
