Agreement signed on
the local wild seed network in
the Île-de-France region There is currently a lack of available local wild
seeds in the Île-de-France region. Solutions
must be found to the challenges associated
with native plant species, particularly for
the project: anticipating and developing the
supply of plants in the Île-de-France region
to meet needs; raising awareness and
providing support to companies holding
public procurement contracts with Société
du Grand Paris to ensure that local wild seeds
are used.
In this regard, a partnership agreement was
signed in November 2020 between the
Conservatoire Botanique National du
Bassin Parisien (CBNBP), CDC Biodiversité
and Société du Grand Paris. The purpose of
this agreement is to establish a production
chain for herbaceous seeds adapted to the
Île-de-France region in response to current
climate and environmental issues, which can
be used to revegetate sites after construction
and to restore the Grand Paris Express
ecological offsetting sites. The first concrete
actions under this agreement will start in
2021.
Launch of the environmental
and societal policy for urban and
real estate projects Société du Grand Paris has started to draw up
its environmental and societal policy, which
includes consideration of several actions to
integrate biodiversity into urban and real
estate projects.
These include ensuring ecological continuity
(green, blue, brown and black belts) and
providing ecosystem services. It will be
delivered in 2021.
Prioritising the use of wild and native plants
As part of the planting work carried out on the offsetting sites, the company prioritises the use
of wild and local plants and seeds. In the context of climate change and a high probability of
an increase in extreme weather events (droughts, storms), these plants will have greater
resilience and will help preserve local genetic diversity, suited to the soil or climate. This also
limits the risk of introducing invasive species and helps to make ecosystems more resilient.
Developing biodiversity around stations
Several principles included in the Place du Grand Paris public space planning and design guide
are intended to maintain or develop biodiversity around future stations:
make the public space around stations an essential link in the green and blue belt networks;
moderate the intensity of lighting;
make the water cycle visible (e.g. open-air rainwater management);
make public spaces feel more like gardens;
identify, protect and develop the tree heritage;
install living natural environments (e.g. green roofs);
plant trees, plant directly in the ground, etc.
