Questions to Bernard Cathelain Can you give us a quick overview of the current
status of work on the Grand Paris Express?
All the lines falling under the programme
management remit of Société du Grand Paris are
now under construction. Civil engineering has started
on line 18. And in December we awarded the contract
for the construction of the viaduct between Palaiseau
and the CEA Saint-Aubin turnback siding. We are
starting the underground work on line 17, which held
the naming ceremony for Florence, its first tunnel
boring machine, last September. This line, the
northern section of which links Le Bourget RER to
Mesnil-Amelot via Val-d Oise and the Roissy-Charles
de Gaulle Airport complex, is particularly strategic.
It will offer a real alternative to the growing road
congestion in Paris s northern corridor. On line 16,
where we are also aware of the specific challenges of
opening up lower-income areas of the region such
as Clichy-Montfermeil, work is ramping up, and six
tunnel boring machines have already been deployed.
At Aulnay, the first buildings for the future operations
centre for Lines 16 and 17 are being built. Finally,
for the southern section of line 15, between
Noisy-Champs and Pont de Sèvres, all structures are
now under construction, most of the station boxes
have been completed and track laying has begun,
so railway infrastructure is now being installed.
I would also like to recognise the progress made at
the worksites for line 14, between Olympiades and
Orly, where the Paris Metro Authority (RATP) has now
taken over as programme manager.
